The Spanish meadows, an unrivalled natural landscape

It is pointless to try. It is a vain effort. It is not possible to replicate the dehesa universe outside of its place of origin, where it has always been. Climate, soil, fauna, flora, wind, a very controlled human intervention, and the maintenance of a millennial tradition have allowed the dehesa to be preserved and to remain the origin of our Cinco Jotas 100% acorn-fed Iberian ham.
The quality of Cinco Jotas begins in the dehesa. Few know this, but the dehesa is the largest natural ecosystem in Spain and a perfect example of the combination of nature with traditional food production and sustainability.

The most well-known fruit of the dehesa is the acorn, but the millions of trees found in this ecosystem perform another vital task: their roots carry water and nutrients from deep areas to the surface, making it possible for grass to grow, preventing erosion, softening the summer temperatures, and increasing the relative humidity of the air throughout the twelve months of the year.
These elements create a luxury pantry for the 100% Iberian pigs of Cinco Jotas, who, from the end of October, begin to enjoy their favorite time of the year: the montanera. Fresh air, exercise, a sense of complete freedom, natural feeding based on acorns, herbs, wild fruits, aromatic plants, nuts...
